Narcissist, Psychopath or Sociopath? Who Is Who?

NARCISSIST

A narcissist is somebody who lacks empathy, is grandiose and entitled. This person is seeking validation and is very arrogant. We may claim that narcissism is a disorder of self-esteem. They have huge problems with balancing their self-esteem. You actually can teach them to be empathetic for a minute but it is not long-lasting.

Vigilance for Violence

As regards the vigilance for violence throughout the world, as observed in social media, 24/7 news cycles, movies, television, the whole realm of infotainment, and so forth, many get the impression the world is a dangerous place. Yes, it is and that depends on a number of factor. For population groups around the planet, violence is a daily occurrence.

Creating Characters for Fictional Stories

INTRODUCTION:

It requires skill, practice, and patience to develop realistic characters. It is equally difficult or almost impossible to craft a story without a living being, even if it be a personified animal, as occurs in Richard Bach's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull."

Forgiveness in Action

Forgiveness, like not forgiving, depends on separation. There are many ways to work with forgiveness and these many ways have been communicated and recycled endlessly in self-help and personal growth literature and methods. The reason that forgiveness is dependent on separation is surely clear: while I hold on to blame and hatred I can never be healthy in my inner world. I will take those people who have hurt me,

Critical Thinking: Was George Orwell A Prophet?

Nowadays, George Orwell or 1984 is often mentioned when it comes to what is taking place in the world. The reason for this is that today's world is becoming more oppressive as time goes by.

Did Two Serial Killers Meet On The Dating Game?

After having experienced the 1960s and 1970s during my childhood, I thought I had heard and seen just about everything on TV. U.S. presidential candidate Richard Nixon appeared briefly on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In to help him secure the youth vote. The U.S. Communist Party held a fundraiser on TV and raised about $1000. Legendary singer James Brown performed one of his sexually-charged tunes doing a star-studded telethon to raise money for the Democratic Party.

Best Hollywood Movies About Sexual Abuse

In the light of recent stories regarding alleged sexual abuse cases in Hollywood, in which multiple victims have accused some of the most known figures in the movie industry, it's interesting to remind ourselves how Hollywood itself is dealing with such topics in the movies.

Great Fiction: Last Seen Leaving by Kelly Braffet

Kelly Braffet's Last Seen Leaving (2006)

Something that never ceases to amaze me about TV shows such as Cold Case Files and Forensic Files is how very often, for incredibly long periods of time, horrific crimes go unsolved. Most people are familiar with the case of the Black Dahlia, perhaps the most famous unsolved murder of all. It took modernism a long time to catch up

Five Bizarre Motives for Murder

As a mystery writer, I am always thinking of bizarre motives for murder. There are a lot motives to kill people. Some are acceptable; say, self-defense. Others, like war, are debated. And then there are those that are just strange, bizarre, bordering on being excessively... weird. Why?

Wife of Serial Killer Shares Life Story!

A significant part of many of the popular TV drama shows dwells on the psychological background of the "unidentified subject" who has committed heinous crimes. One of my favorite shows was Profile and the primary activity of the main character was to analyze who, why, and what is making this individual act as he/she does. I wonder how that main character would have discussed Gary Ridgway, the Green River Serial Killer . . .

To Love a Serial Killer

Dexter is a brilliant television series that airs on the Showtime Network. Typically, one would think a show like this would fail. How can the audience be expected to like and root for a main character that kills people every episode. Well, you can if the main character happens to be a serial killer that tracks and kills serial killers.

It Was in the Stars - The Execution of Serial Killer John Muhammad

The death of a human being can never be something to celebrate regardless of how that person lived his or her life or how and why they died. Having said that, there are some deaths that will be mourned by few and will relieve the fears of many. This is one of those deaths, a very sad story.

Serial Killer Facts and Trivia Questions

Although there are some discrepancies about the exact definition of a serial killer, it is characteristically defined as an individual who has murdered at least three people over a period of more than a month. Their driving force for killing is driven by psychological factors.

Do You Live In An Area Where Serial Killers Are Active?

I really don't intend to scare or alarm anyone, but this is an important subject. Sometimes, because of a potential threat, we must just get over being scared or rather, make good use of fear. Fear is a good thing if it causes one to be more observant, more diligent, and more careful about our surroundings. So please, if you reside near any of these areas, just be careful! Below is a list of areas where there's an active hunt for serial killers and/or unsolved cases of suspected serial killer involvement.

What's the Difference Between a Murderer and a Serial Killer?

Our world has been enveloped with so much wickedness. The different types of crimes have been rampantly committed by law violators in whatever part of the world. Every possible offender has been in the streets modestly watching and waiting for an opportunity to rob or kill their next prey.

Unrequited Love - Women Who Love Serial Killers and Men on Death Row

January of 2003, a waitress in Germany named Dagmar Polzin saw the picture of a convicted murderer while waiting at a bus stop in Hamburg. The photo was of Bobby Lee Harris, posted by an anti-death penalty group. Bobby Lee of North Carolina was on death row for stabbing his boss to death during a robbery. Polzin was profoundly influenced by the photo of Bobby Lee and fell in love that moment.

How to Tell If You Are Dating a Serial Killer

So you finally think you've found the right person to settle down with. Everything you do together feels just right. The gleaming smile and charm your mate expels is a force hard to be challenged. There are a few things that are very minor that sometimes arise but you don't question because they are subtle flaws and hey no one is perfect, it just makes you love their character more.

The Sick Mind of a Serial Killer

Based on some readings, serial killers are some of the most insecure people in the world and cowards. Their motivation may be traced back to this fact. Often, they have a disturbed childhood that could involved physical, mental and sexual abuse by someone they trust and love. The torture they experienced made them develop a guilt free attitude. They feel no remorse or responsibility towards other people because to their mind, it is the world that owes them. It is that frame of mind that allows them to make those crimes repeatedly.

New York's Most Famous Serial Killer - David Berkowitz

The story of this famous serial killer has a bit of a personal twist.

It was late summer, 1976. As a twenty-one year old I was not really into or much aware of the news of the day outside of local news. I was planning a trip to visit a friend in New York City and a co-worker asked me if I would drive her to her parent's condo in Queens. I agreed.

The three-hour trip was fairly normal as we talked about work and other things. We finally got to the condo complex and I parked the car a little bit away from the main entrance. It was very dark and hot as it was about midnight on the 80 degrees summer night.

Serial Killer Police Units?

This article might sound sterile or cold but as you continue to read it I'm sure most of you will understand. I have received many emails and letters in the past few days supporting my premise that the federal government, in conjunction with the states, should form a special federal task force or search organization with one purpose... to locate dead bodies discarded by serial killers or any type of killers. This organization should search national parks, state parks, rural areas, wooded areas adjacent to interstate highways and any place where a body might be "dumped".

Book Review of Choice Cut Book 3 of the Cut Series

Book three in his penetrating "Cut" series, Choice Cut by author Arnold Eslava-Grünwaldt dispenses to readers yet another fast-paced, and intensely exciting addition to his well-received crime thriller series, within which, he capably continues to delve into the activities of the criminally debauched in Yonkers, New York, and the skilled team of detectives that pursue them and bring them to justice.

Maintaining the pace of excitement, drama, and thrills author Grünwaldt artfully continues the general storyline from book two, populated with most of the same characters, particularly the resilient and tough, Detective Sergeant Hamilcar Hitchcock and members of his general assignment squad. With a challenging mystery brewing, the story moves quickly and flawlessly into new and twisted scenarios calling for Sergeant Hitchcock and his team to move into action.

This time, the story starts out with members of the general assignment squad finding themselves coming to terms with the end result of their previous investigation which led to the nearly fatal shooting of a revered fellow officer and the unfortunate and temporary loss of another valued officer. However, the thrills and twists are just beginning with the discovery of a recently deceased male who may possibly be the casualty of a serial killer known as "The Butcher" whose victims are referred to as "one of the butcher's cuts."

Meanwhile, the mystery intensifies when somewhere in a hospital bed artist Jerome Samuels dies holding onto the knowledge of a dark secret from his past, one brimming with regret and betrayal. Initially famous for his tattoo art, Jerome Samuels leaves behind hints of his secreted past within his artwork. Specifically, his tattoos leave indelible hints to his grimy past and a well-endowed stash. Also, leaving behind two ne'er do well sons, Paske Samuels and half-brother Ben-Moon Wallis, the two schemes on finding the clues to their maligned father's hidden treasure. Moreover, unbeknownst to them, they are not the only ones looking for clues to Samuels' stash. Someone else has their eye on that same prize and lurks in the shadows willing to go to great lengths to get what they want and murder is no exception.

Ultimately, as criminal elements cross paths, the excitement continues to build within the story as the butcher's presence in Westchester becomes an increasing terror making for an intense race against time and crime for Detective Sergeant Hitchcock and his team to unravel this web of evil and greed.

Essentially, I really enjoyed Choice Cut, by author Arnold Eslava-Grünwaldt. In fact, I have enjoyed the other books in the series as well. Each book so far has turned out to be a fascinating, multi-perspective mystery, populated with great characterizations, especially Detective Sergeant Hamilcar Hitchcock. Overall, the story rages with clever literary twists and turns that take you deep into the heart of darkness, the mind of a killer, and into the backstory of the heroic detectives that do the really hard work. Consequently, this book as well as his others, are worthy reads that I personally think would make a great TV series or movie.

New Novel Asks If Love Can Save a Serial Killer

Lorie Yauney's debut novel, Corbin's Basement, is an entertaining rollercoaster ride through a world of suffering. I never would have imagined that reading about a serial killer could be so much fun.

The novel opens when Peyton Alexander moves to Atlanta from South Dakota to take on a new position as HR Director for a company named Blast. There she meets a young customer service representative, Corbin, whom she immediately falls for. Peyton wants to keep things professional, so at first, she tries to avoid Corbin, but eventually, she agrees to go out for pizza with him, and soon they are an item. However, Corbin has a secret-he is missing a thumb, and Peyton wants to know why.

Meanwhile, Corbin's best friend, the nerdy Spencer, is jealous that Corbin is spending so much time with Peyton when he should be helping him build a toy train scene to win a contest. Spencer has never had luck with women, so he decides to take out his frustration on Peyton, digging into her past for ways to bring her down so Corbin will see what she is really like and dump her.

As the novel progresses, Yauney takes us back and forth between present-day events and her characters' backstories. We see dramatic office politics playing out amid a background of traumatic childhoods and deep, dark secrets that the characters feel too vulnerable to share with each other at least at first.

Most traumatic of all is Corbin's childhood. His mother Jessica had gotten pregnant by a would-be rodeo star, the millionaire playboy Franklin Eastman. Franklin wanted nothing to do with Jessica once he realized she was pregnant. Jessica considered having an abortion but decided against it, only to feel once Corbin was born that he had ruined her life. Corbin's childhood was one of neglect and seeing his mother's successive boyfriends use and abuse her. His only friend was the owner of the diner where his mother worked, and even that friendship was destined to fall apart. During this dysfunctional childhood, Corbin also lost his thumb-an event that would have a devastating impact on the adult he became.

Once grown up, Corbin wanted to develop a relationship with his father, but his father still refused to be involved. Now, while Corbin and Peyton are trying to figure out their relationship and Spencer is trying to break them up, Franklin reenters the picture, adding to the string of volatile situations as he tries to find out whether Corbin has the same unnatural propensities he has.

To say much more would spoil all the fun for the reader. For a debut novel, Yauney shows herself already a master at weaving together multiple plots to keep readers constantly entertained; I was often on the edge of my seat as I waited to see whether Peyton and Corbin's love could help them surmount all odds. Yancey's characters are well-rounded and gain our sympathies despite how they, at times, repel us. Despite their idiosyncrasies, they are believable and we find ourselves sympathizing with and cheering for them, even when they are at odds with one another. Best of all, we're kept guessing what will happen until the final page.

Why Do People Become Serial Killers?

There are differences between mass murderers and serial killers:

o Mass murderers kill a number of people at one time and in one place. Mass murderers usually attack schools; universities and restaurants believing it to be a place for a maximum kill effect. They often die at the scene of the multiple slayings, either through suicide or police action. Only occasionally do they turn themselves in to the police after the killings.

Serial Killer Movies

Serial Killers have been explored a lot in Hollywood movies. Some movies were based on real-life serial killers, while others were superbly portrayed work of fiction. Hollywood has profited a lot in these serial killer murder mystery movies. Also, it is one of the favorite genres for a lot of movie watchers. Here's bringing you a list of some of the serial killer movies I liked.

Serial Killers' Profile

Much of our information on Serial Killers comes through books, otherwise, there are lots of myths on serial killers that we tend to believe. One such book is by Tomas Guillen. He does a good job of sieving facts, information, and data on serial killers from otherwise an assemblage of myths, and half-baked truths.

Female Serial Killers...

One of the rarest creatures in the criminal world is the female serial killer. Male serial killers are, unfortunately, a common events.

Daytona Beach Serial Killer Strikes Again?

A serial killer who killed three women approximately two years ago is apparently back in Daytona Beach, Florida. Around 2005-2006 three females were found dead in the Daytona Beach area. The police knew then that a serial killer was on the loose as the DNA was apparently the same. A check-in the DNA data banks haven't turned up the killer, so apparently, he has never had his genetic DNA deposited.

The Mind of a Serial Killer

Have you ever wondered what motivates a serial killer? How safe is the area you live in? How well do you know your neighbor? Who are you shaking hands with every day? TV has more than just one show about serial killers and we love to watch these shows! The silence of The Lambs does have some important revelations, that should not be discarded! The hunter seeking its prey is very good at blending in and controlling just how much is revealed.

Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI Miami, CSI New York, Law and Order, and I have not named them all! Are we learning more about the mind of a serial killer? What intrigues you about the mind of a serial killer? Are we more aware of our surroundings? What really protects you from the mind of a serial killer? I ask these questions because they deserve an answer and your reading this because you are drawn into it!

These shows focus not on just some rapist, but most of the time on an intelligent killer, who slips through the cracks of society unseen. How does this person stay unseen? It is called, "Perfect Camouflage". One that can adapt to any situation and leave with a powerful presence of being liked. The Dateline Mystery tv show is frustrating to watch because cops botch up the crime scene! Who does the crime scenes as good as a CSI TV show? Look at the families in court that watch a killer go free because the evidence is lacking!

Think about a cold calculated killer and you can watch the show "Numbers!" Is it all about numbers or timing? Is it the sheer joy of making the kill, that no one can figure out, except Sherlock Holmes! Who is next? Every day we walk out the door we don't know what will happen, but we know that a positive attitude gets us through. Am I right? When a person is home alone, the desires begin to fester, and the thoughts of, "what if" manifest themselves.

Is it crazy for someone to write serial killers and get to know them? Is it insane for women to write them in prison and later on get married? Has parts of humanity come to the point of saying, "Is this all there is?" One man who killed 48 people in Seattle Washington, stated that he wanted to do it! That was his motivation, while millions asked, "why?". Let's look back in time and look at Alexander The Great, Napoleon, Vladimir The Impaler. How can a civilized community be treated by someone that has lost a few screws?

Out of all the millions, what makes anyone so special? Is it being loved? Wanting to be loved? Being remembered and enshrined! Some of the serial killers actually started killing animals and then evolved into killing people. It seems that some were going through a nurturing process and turned into what many call a mass of hideous monsters.

Ed Gein wanted the mother's attention and had needs that were never quite fulfilled. Buffalo Bill also got in touch with his feminine side, which leads to the torture and death of many young women in, "Silence of The Lambs". Is the serial killer trying to figure himself out by pushing some limits? Is the serial killer finding out what pleases him/her the most? Does the killer like seeing his/her name in the newspapers? Is the serial killer a collector of some trophies of his/her great conquest?

How much does being in control play in this insane scenario? Control does seem to be an important factor and leaving an unhappy existence may be enticing for the killer. The show, "Super Natural" is on the trail of fighting evil, but they have to do some killing on the way. Staying in control of one's emotions and focused on the task at hand, does bring some pleasure. Or it seems to be on the show, "Super Natural". We all have wants and needs, but what happens when we start to lose control?

Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Wayne Gacy, and Ed Gein had something in common. They became well known and enshrined by a society that wants to know more, and TV will seek to meet that need. Every night of the week, we sit mesmerized in front of the TV and wait for that next clue. As Robert Stack used to say on Unsolved Mysteries, "Will you be the next missing piece, in solving this puzzle?"

If you have read books such as "Silent Prey", you may have heard that blood smells like copper. Horror writers need that descriptive detail to pull you into the moment! Is Stephen King ready for his own nightmare? The thrill of trying to understand that point of which we are not to enter. That dark place we are not to go because if we do, there is no going back! American TV shows delve into this dark unseen world, and the ratings rise through the roof! Where will this lead?
